Revenue and postbacks

Every euro a lead earns will become a ledger line: accrued, confirmed, charged back, paid. Postbacks will be matched against network reports automatically.

Markmatix is in development. The features on this page are coming soon: we describe them as we are designing them.

Example: how we are designing it, with made-up data.

If you earn from affiliate programmes, you know the problem: the network reports one figure, your books show another, and nobody can say which lead is missing. Markmatix is being designed as lead tracking software that follows the money as well as the lead. Every euro a lead earns will be recorded as a movement, and network reports will be compared with postbacks automatically. A postback is the server-to-server notice a network sends when a lead changes status: accepted, converted, charged back. It will be the basis of the accounts, lead by lead.

A postback URL for every network

Each network will get its own postback URL, one per publisher, protected by a secret. The network's statuses will be translated into Markmatix's own: different names for the same thing will become, for example, a single "converted". A repeated postback will count once.

Connectors for affiliate networks will arrive as plugins for every publisher, starting with the networks our first publisher already works with. Whether they are included or paid for will be decided in the price list. The postback URL per network itself will be in the core.

Lead tracking, status by status

Every request will carry a status that changes as events arrive:

  • new, just captured;
  • verified, after the lead quality checks;
  • quarantined, if its source looks suspicious;
  • sent to a partner;
  • accepted or rejected by the partner;
  • converted, when the network confirms the conversion;
  • expired, if it stays unsold beyond the lead distribution window.

The financial ledger

Every change in value will be a new line. No line will ever be overwritten: a chargeback will be one more line, not a figure corrected by hand.

Field What it will hold
Type Accrued, confirmed, charged back or paid
Amount The value of the movement
Currency The currency of the movement
Date When it happened
Origin Postback, network report or manual entry

A lead's revenue will be the sum of its lines, so every figure in a report can be traced back to the requests behind it. Each line will carry its own currency, because currencies and countries will be settings of the platform.

Revenue will sit on the request, not on the contact, because it is the request that is sold, paid for and charged back. Someone who asks for a loan and later for a car insurance quote will have two requests, each with its own financial history. The same will hold for status, consent and partner.

Reconciliation with network reports

Network reports will be imported from a file or through an API. Markmatix will compare them with the postbacks received and show three things:

  • leads converted but not paid;
  • chargebacks with no reason given;
  • amounts that differ from what was expected.

The system will do the matching, and you will look only at the differences.

Revenue tracking by source, site, industry and partner

The revenue report will break down by source, site, industry, partner and period, with the chargeback rate alongside. It is the view our first publisher does not have today: there, postbacks will be among the first pieces to move to Markmatix, without touching Mautic, and will link leads to revenue straight away. The migration path is on the Mautic alternative page. You will see which form or campaign brings leads that get paid, and which brings leads that come back.

Chargebacks will not stay in the accounts alone. They will also count against the source's score and the signals that preceded them, as described on the lead quality page. The daily Telegram summary will be able to include leads, revenue and chargebacks, and you will be able to ask the assistant how much a product earned in a given month: see the Telegram and AI page and the loan leads page.

Outcomes will also be able to leave for your own systems: partner outcomes will be among the events sent by outgoing webhooks, signed and retried.

Invoicing partners

The core will export a summary per partner and per month to your accounting software. Italian e-invoicing to partners, through the national exchange system (SdI), will arrive as a plugin. Here too, whether it is included or paid for will be decided in the price list.

If reconciling with networks eats hours every month, join the waitlist.

Common questions

What is a postback URL?

It is the address a publisher gives a network so the network can report what happened to each lead, server to server. In Markmatix there will be one per network and per publisher. Each postback will become a status change on the request and, where there is an amount, a line in the ledger.

How will postback URLs be protected?

Each one will be protected by a secret, so nobody else can invent conversions or chargebacks. Postbacks will also be deduplicated: if the same one arrives twice, it will count once.

Is a postback the same as a conversions API?

No. A postback goes from the network to the publisher and says what happened to a lead. An ad platform's conversions API goes the other way: the advertiser sends conversions to the platform to measure campaigns. Sending conversions to ad platforms is not among the features we are designing.

What happens if a network sends the same postback twice?

It will count once. Network statuses will be translated into Markmatix statuses, and a repeated postback will not create a second line in the ledger.

How do you find chargebacks with no reason given?

By importing the network's reports, from a file or through an API, and comparing them with the postbacks. Markmatix will flag chargebacks with no reason, leads converted but not paid, and amounts that differ from what was expected.
